Freelance… nothing beats it!

January 21st, 2010. Written by admin

Just to recap on why I love to work freelance… this picture can give some insight. Yes ,that is my hammock I am lying in and yes it is 2AM in the morning and I have just had a very lovely glass of wine. Working freelance gives me the flexibility to do the things I love to do, such as kiteboard(when the wind permits it), skateboard with the little brothers on Friday afternoons, study/develop my film making craft and mucho mucho mas!

When I look back on how I started to merge into the freelance world, I Remember those who helped me develop myself into this field and I am grateful for all of their help and teachings they have/continue to give me.

FREELANCE TIPS!

Those who have been mentored like to pass their teachings on to others…. so here is a few freelance tips that I would like to share with you all.

#1 Time management

In order to master multiple projects is to master your time management. Dedicate specific hourly blocks to each individual project each day. DO NOT work on anything else other than that specific project during that block. Set daily goals for your projects and aim to complete them in the most efficient way.

Learn to say no to more work! Having work is always good but if you become overwhelmed than both you and your clients will not be satisfied with your quality of work.

Do not waste your precious time! Stop looking at your IMs and your bookface messages. Try to limit yourself to your socializing urges once every 1-2two hours.

#2 Increase productivity

Set up your workspace so that it fits your needs. I personally work better when both my home and office space are clean, spotless! Have your playlist with your most motivating music playing. Have refreshing and stimulating snacks. I am a big fan of Jasmine Tea and bananas… it definitely keeps me going.

Make sure you have solid to do lists…. Know what tasks need to be done and prioritize them so that you get the most important done with off the bat.

#3 RESEARCH!

There are so many resources online for your to learn and develop your freelance craft. Simple research can lead you to all of the roads of a greater knowledge and understanding of your profession. For instance, if you were a web developer, you could head over to http://tutsplus.com/ to find a variety of web and photoshop tutorials to bring you skills to the next level.

In conclusion there are many resources, tools and teachings to the freelancer. When ever you need to figure something out… just Google your question… that is the basic start.

Please drop a comment if you have any questions or wanna give a shout out!
